Artwork Submission Requirements

To ensure your custom flag is printed with exceptional clarity and color accuracy, please follow the artwork guidelines outlined below. Submitting high-resolution, properly formatted files helps us deliver the best possible results. If you need help preparing your artwork, our in-house graphic design team is ready to assist.

Raster images are composed of tiny colored squares called pixels, which collectively form the image. The quality of a raster file is based on its resolution, measured in pixels per inch (PPI) or dots per inch (DPI). Higher resolution improves quality but can limit scalability without causing pixelation or blurriness.
For large-format printing, creating raster artwork at full size and at a minimum of 150 DPI is generally sufficient. This balance maintains image quality while managing file size efficiently. Higher DPI settings, like 300 DPI, may be required for smaller, detailed print formats.
Accepted File Formats for Raster Files:
  • JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg)
  • GIF (.gif)
  • TIFF (.tiff)
  • Bitmap (.bmp)
  • Photoshop (.psd)
  • Digital camera photos
  • Scanned images
For complex designs or precise detail, consider submitting vector files if possible, as they allow for unlimited scalability without quality loss.
Vector art is created using points, lines, and shapes rather than pixels, allowing it to be scaled infinitely without any loss of quality. This makes vector files ideal for high-quality printing at any size, ensuring sharp and clean edges.
For best results, please provide vector artwork in one of the following formats:
  • EPS (.eps)
  • SVG (.svg)
  • AI (.ai) (Adobe Illustrator)
Additional Notes:
Ensure that all fonts are converted to outlines or curves to avoid font compatibility issues.
For files containing linked images, please include the image files or embed them directly within the vector file to maintain quality.
Vector files are preferred for logos, icons, and other graphics where crisp, scalable lines are essential.
When preparing your artwork, please ensure it matches the exact dimensions of the flag you are ordering. To allow for edge trimming and avoid unwanted borders, include a 1/8″ bleed on each side of the artwork. This extra space around the design ensures your flag’s graphics extend fully to the edges after production.
For example, if your flag is 3′ x 5′, your file should be set to these dimensions, plus the additional bleed area on all sides.
To ensure a high-quality print, please upload artwork files with a resolution of at least 300 DPI at full size. For large-format printing, 150 DPI may be sufficient depending on the specific requirements. Additionally, set your color mode to CMYK to minimize color variations during the printing process.
Note on Raster Formats: Files like JPG and PNG are raster-based, meaning they are composed of pixels. When created or saved at lower resolutions, these formats may appear pixelated or blurry when scaled up. For best results, please ensure that any JPG or PNG files are created at the required DPI and match the exact dimensions of your flag.
Some intricate design elements may pose challenges for printing. To maintain accuracy and quality, please follow these guidelines to avoid common issues.
  • Transparencies: Transparent effects can sometimes print unpredictably. To ensure the artwork appears as intended, please add a solid background color behind any transparent areas.
  • Gradients: For vector files with gradients, include the exact PMS or CMYK colors used within the gradient. This information helps us achieve consistent color matching during the printing process.
By simplifying complex elements and providing clear color specifications, we can ensure your artwork is printed as accurately as possible.
A digital proof will be sent to you via email for review and approval before production begins.
Please note: Proofs must be approved promptly to avoid delays in production. Any delay in approving your proof may impact the production timeline, and National Capital Flag cannot be held responsible for missed deadlines due to unapproved proofs.
Custom-made flags are typically delivered within 30 days, though this may vary based on the size, quantity, and complexity of your order. For a more precise timeframe or updates on your order status, please feel free to reach out to our experienced team.
