Happy Statehood Anniversary to the Beehive State!
On this glorious January 4th, we showcase Utah’s state flag as we celebrate the day Utah officially joined the Union as the 45th state, forever solidifying its place in the tapestry of American history.
Join us as we raise a toast to the Beehive State, a land of breathtaking landscapes, buzzing innovation, and vibrant culture.
Speaking of bees, let’s take a moment to appreciate Utah’s current flag, a symbol rich in historical significance.
Utah’s State Flag, Present and Future:
The American bald eagle and shield proudly display the state’s connection to the United States, while the industrious beehive, surrounded by sego lilies, the state flower, reflects Utah’s dedication to hard work, community, and cooperation. The dates “1847” and “1896” commemorate the arrival of the Mormon pioneers and Utah’s statehood, respectively.
But guess what? Utah is getting a makeover!
In 2024, a new flag is set to take flight, designed by a statewide competition to best represent the evolving spirit of Utah.
However, there is a potential referendum to challenge the change and keep the current flag.
If enough signatures are collected by April 2024, the referendum will appear on the November 2024 ballot.
Let’s buzz through some fun facts about Utah:
- The Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most saline inland bodies of water in the world.
