On August 10, Missouri marked its 203rd statehood anniversary, commemorating its admission in 1821 as the 24th state to join the Union. Known as the “Show-Me State,” Missouri showcases a vibrant heritage, from its role in shaping American music and literature to the iconic Gateway Arch, a symbol of innovation and progress.
Missouri State Flag
The Missouri state flag, adopted in 1913, features a tricolor design of red, white, and blue stripes. At the center, a blue circle surrounded by twenty-four white stars represents Missouri’s status as the 24th state. Within the circle, the state seal displays two grizzly bears, symbolizing strength and vigilance, flanking a shield with the Latin motto “Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto,” meaning “Let the Welfare of the People be the Supreme Law.”
