The standard United States burial flag is 5 FT x 9.5 FT. That is the size the Department of Veterans Affairs issues and the size burial flag cases are built around. Our casket flags are 5 FT x 9.5 FT in cotton, nylon, or polyester.

Yes, for eligible Veterans and Reservists. The next of kin applies with VA Form 27-2008, Application for United States Flag for Burial Purposes, through a funeral director, a VA regional office, or a U.S. post office. The VA does not replace a flag that is lost, destroyed, or stolen. Families who need a second flag or a replacement can order one from us.

Each case lists the flag size it holds. A folded 5 FT x 9.5 FT burial flag needs a full-size burial case. A folded 3 FT x 5 FT flag is smaller and fits a smaller case. If you are not sure which flag you have, measure it unfolded or call us and we will help you choose.

The U.S. Flag Code says a flag that is no longer a fitting emblem for display should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. We accept flags for proper disposal at our Alexandria shop, and we repair flags that still have life in them. See Repair & Disposal.
