The polyester American flag is the longest-wearing outdoor flag we make. It is sewn from UV-resistant 100% polyester with embroidered stars and sewn stripes, finished with a white poly/cotton duck heading and heavy-duty brass grommets, and made in the USA. Polyester is the heaviest of the three American flag fabrics, with a woven texture like cotton, and it is the fabric to choose for a pole that takes steady wind: a coastal site, a hilltop, an open commercial lot, or a tall pole that flies the flag every day.

Because it is heavier, a polyester American flag needs more wind to fly than nylon and will hang on calm days. If your pole sees light and variable wind, our nylon American flag is the better choice. Six sizes are available, from 2.5 FT x 4 FT to 6 FT x 10 FT.

The flag’s design was adopted by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, and the 50-star pattern has been the official arrangement since July 4, 1960. Rules for display, including the provision that the flag may be flown in all weather if it is made of all-weather material, are in the United States Flag Code. A polyester American flag is that all-weather flag.

Woven polyester came into flag making after nylon, to solve the one problem nylon has: it wears at the fly end in constant wind. Commercial and government sites that replaced flags every few months switched to polyester and got a longer service life from each flag.

Polyester or nylon, which lasts longer?

In steady wind, polyester. Its two-ply weave resists the fly-end wear that shortens a nylon flag’s life. In light wind, nylon flies better and looks better, and its life is similar.

Why does my polyester flag hang on calm days?

It is heavier than nylon and needs a stronger breeze to lift. That is the trade-off for its durability. If your site is often calm, choose nylon.

Which size fits my pole?

Flag length about one quarter of pole height. A 25 FT pole takes 4 FT x 6 FT or 5 FT x 8 FT, a 30 FT pole takes 5 FT x 8 FT or 6 FT x 10 FT.

Does it need to come down in rain?

No. The Flag Code allows an all-weather flag to fly in bad weather, and polyester sheds water. Take it down in a storm that could damage it.

Can a worn flag be repaired?
