Its seven governors are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate to staggered 14-year terms, and they make up seven of the 12 voting members of the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets U.S. monetary policy. • Mounting: A pole hem is a sewn sleeve along the hoist edge that slides over an indoor or parade pole. A pole hem with fringe adds gold rayon fringe on three edges, the traditional ceremonial finish. Grommets are brass rings set into a canvas header, the standard finish for an outdoor flagpole.
  • Single-sided or double-sided: A single-sided flag carries the design on the front only; the back is blank. A double-sided flag shows the design on both sides and is built one of three ways:
    • Double-reverse: one layer of fabric, printed on one side so the dye soaks through and the design shows on the back in reverse. The lightest build.
    • Double-paneled: two panels sewn back to back, so the design reads correctly on both sides. The heaviest build, and it needs the most wind to fly.
    • Single field, double seal: one field with the emblem on the front and a second emblem tacked to the back, so the seal reads correctly from either side without the weight of two panels.
  • Printed construction: Acid dye bonds into the nylon fiber, so the color goes deep and stays bright outdoors. Every printed flag is lock stitched, the stronger interlocking stitch, on the seams and header. For appliqué and embroidery instead of print, see the sewn version of this flag.
  • Size: 3x4 FT, 3x5 FT, 4x6 FT, 5x8 FT, 52x66 IN. For another size, give us the finished width and height you need.

Historical Background

President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act on December 23, 1913, creating the Federal Reserve System, with a Federal Reserve Board to exercise supervisory authority over the banks. The Banking Act of 1935, which President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed on August 23, 1935, renamed the Federal Reserve Board as the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and gave its members 14-year terms. The leader of the Board, previously called the governor of the Federal Reserve Board, became the chairman of the Board of Governors.

Today the President designates, with the advice and consent of the Senate, a Chair and two Vice Chairs from among the governors for four-year terms, one of them the Vice Chair for Supervision. The Board's headquarters is in Washington, DC, where its two main buildings are the historic Marriner S. Eccles Building, named for Eccles by an act of Congress in 1982, and the William McChesney Martin Building.

The Board's seal shows an eagle perched on a shield of stars and stripes, between two leafy branches, inside the words BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM. On the flag, a ring of white stars surrounds the seal.

Which options can I choose on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System Printed Flag?

Single-sided or double-sided; a pole hem, a fringed pole hem or grommets; and 3x4 FT, 3x5 FT, 4x6 FT, 5x8 FT or 52x66 IN. Review them above, then call or request a quote.

How is a double-sided flag made?

Three ways. Double-reverse is one layer of fabric, so the design shows through on the back in reverse; it is the lightest build and flies in the least wind. Double-paneled is two panels sewn back to back, so the design reads correctly on both sides; it is the heaviest. Single field, double seal is one field with a second emblem tacked to the back, so the seal reads correctly from either side at close to single-layer weight.

For a flag seen from both sides indoors, double-paneled or single field double seal reads best. For an outdoor pole, double-reverse flies most easily. Tell us where the flag will hang and we will recommend one.

Should I order the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System flag sewn or printed?

Sewn appliqué and embroidery gives the emblem relief and texture, and it is the traditional choice for a ceremonial flag indoors. Printed reproduces fine seal detail exactly and is the usual choice for an outdoor flagpole. Both are made in the USA. If you are unsure, tell us where the flag will be displayed and we will recommend one.

Can the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System printed flag be displayed indoors?

Yes. Order it with a pole hem, plain or with fringe, for an indoor or parade pole. For a formal ceremonial flag with appliqué and embroidery, see the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System sewn flag.

How long does a printed flag last outdoors?

It depends on wind, sun and how often it flies. Acid dye bonds into the nylon fiber, so the color holds up well, and every printed flag is lock stitched for the wind. Tell us where the flag will fly and we will recommend a size and a replacement schedule.

How is the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System flag flown with the American flag?

The American flag takes the position of honor. On separate poles of the same height it flies on its own right, which is the viewer’s left. When two flags share one halyard, the American flag is at the peak and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System flag flies below it.
