Product Description

The NCF guidon stand in chrome is a heavy metal base that holds a guidon or an indoor pole up to 1 1/4 IN steady on a hard floor, a stage, or a headquarters carpet. The base is 13 IN across and weighs 30 lb., so it does not tip when the guidon is bumped, and the polished chrome finish matches chrome spear finials and modern office hardware.

A guidon is carried in formation and then parked in the orderly room, the commander’s office, or the unit display. This guidon stand is built for that: heavy enough to stay put, low enough to sit beside a desk, and finished to look right in a command suite. It also serves as an indoor flag stand for any 1 IN to 1 1/4 IN pole.

Chrome Guidon Stand Features

  • 30 lb. weighted base – holds a guidon or 8 FT pole upright with no wall bracket.
  • 13 IN diameter – a wide footprint that resists tipping in a busy office.
  • Polished chrome – a bright, durable finish that matches our chrome Army spear and chrome Liberty stand.
  • Fits poles up to 1 1/4 IN – guidon staffs and standard indoor poles.
  • Metal construction – no plastic parts to crack.

Historical Background

Guidons identify companies, batteries, troops, and detachments, and they have been carried by U.S. Army units since the nineteenth century. When the unit is not in formation the guidon stands in the commander’s office or the orderly room, and the guidon stand is the piece of furniture that holds it. Brass and gilt stands were traditional; chrome came in as offices modernized and units wanted a finish that matched steel furniture and silver hardware.

The same stand works for indoor flags, and many units keep the national colors and the guidon side by side in matching stands.

Will it hold a guidon staff?

Yes. The socket takes staffs and poles up to 1 1/4 IN, which covers standard guidon staffs and our indoor poles.

Is 30 lb. enough for an 8 FT pole with a fringed flag?

Yes. 30 lb. on a 13 IN base is well above the 8 lb. to 15 lb. we recommend for standard floor stands.

Is it available in brass or gold?

This model is chrome. For a gold stand, see the Liberty Stand in gold or the Commodore Stand.

Does it ship assembled?

Yes. It is a single cast base with a socket. Set it down and drop the pole in.

Can I use it outdoors for a ceremony?

For a short outdoor ceremony on a hard surface, yes. Bring it in afterward; chrome is not made for weather.

How do I keep the chrome bright?

Dust it with a soft cloth and wipe fingerprints with a damp cloth followed by a dry buff. Avoid abrasive cleaners and metal polish, which scratch the plating.
