Product Description
A golden yellow flag cord and tassel finishes an indoor flag set. It loops around the pole just below the finial and hangs alongside the fringe, adding the last formal touch to a flag in a courtroom, chapel, school, or government office. Ours is made of rayon in the same golden yellow as our flag fringe, with two matched tassels, and it ships unbraided so you can hang it at the length you want.
Two sizes are offered, with 5 IN and 6 IN tassels. The 5 IN set suits a 7 FT or 8 FT pole with a 3 FT x 5 FT flag; the 6 IN set suits a 9 FT pole and a 4 FT x 6 FT flag. Either fits the indoor poles in our hardware and accessories range.

- Two matched tassels – full, evenly wound tassels that hang straight.
- Ships unbraided – tie it off yourself so the tassels fall exactly where you want them on the pole.

- Fits most indoor poles – loops over any pole up to 1 3/8 IN before the finial goes on.
Historical Background
Cords and tassels came to the flagstaff from military dress and heraldry, where gold cord marked rank and ceremony. On an indoor flag they serve no structural purpose; they mark the flag as a ceremonial one, the same way fringe does. The Flag Code does not regulate fringe or cords, and by long custom both are used on flags displayed indoors and carried on parade, but not on flags flown outdoors.
Golden yellow became the standard because it matches the gold of the eagle finial and the fringe, and because it shows against the blue field of the American flag and the dark fields of most service flags.
Symbolism at a Glance
- Gold: honor, distinction, and ceremony.
- Twin tassels: balance, and the paired cords of a military standard.
