Historical Background

The United States Coast Guard flag was officially adopted in January 28, 1964 , featuring the Coast Guard emblem (crossed anchors behind a shield with the Coast Guard shield) on a white field with “United States Coast Guard” inscribed. Is this flag for indoor or outdoor use?

Indoor and ceremonial. The lined pole hem slides over an indoor or parade pole and the rayon fringe is a ceremonial finish; it is not made to fly outdoors, where weather wears the fringe quickly.

What other finishes is the U.S. Coast Guard flag made in?

This flag is also made with grommets and pole hem. The design is the same; the finish changes how it mounts and where it is displayed.

Is this flag made in the USA?

Yes. This flag is made in the USA.

How is this flag displayed with the American flag?

The American flag takes the position of honor. On separate poles of the same height it flies on its own right, which is the viewer’s left; on one halyard it flies at the peak with the U.S. Coast Guard flag below it.
